What We Do

AIHD aims to constitute a synergistic network of distinguished scholars and researchers from all walks of life, who are focused on critically examining and articulating contemporary African thought on the dignity of the human person, human values and human flourishing, towards a true African renaissance.

Our Objectives

>To promote rigorous and impactful research on contemporary African thought on the dignity of the human person, human values and human flourishing, through a collaborative synergistic network of scholars and researchers (the AIHD Research Network), which will effectively disseminate the findings in reputable peer-reviewed publications, conferences, seminars, workshops, community gatherings and other appropriate fora.

>Through the AIHD Research Network, to advise and influence policy and practice in academic and research institutions; governments; non-governmental organisations; business organisations; indigenous leadership settings; youth organisations; communities; and individuals on contemporary African thought on the dignity of the human person, human values and human flourishing.

>To promote centres of excellence, particularly in Africa, on the study of the dignity of the human person, human values and human flourishing.

>To pursue any other lawful activities that may foster the re-affirmation of the dignity of the human person and the advancement of human values and human flourishing.

Expected Impact

Besides its clear moral imperative and exponential spin-offs, AIHD has realistic and vitally impactful outcomes, which include the following:

> By articulating contemporary African thought on the dignity of the human person, human values and human flourishing, AIHD will help overcome Africa’s conspicuous psychic colonisation, conceptual passivity and desperation; and, through renewed self-affirmation, foster authentic and effective African engagement in critical world debates.
> Rather than simply waiting for chanceful emergence of good leaders in Africa, AIHD’s pro-active approach of scholarly research, conceptual articulation, sensitisation, education, and advocacy on the dignity of the human person, human values and human flourishing, will yield what Africa is longing for and truly deserves: a value-laden leadership culture of good governance, respect for the common good, corruption intolerance and the rule of law.
> AIHD’s collaborative network of reputable scholars and researchers will effectively synergise rigorous scholarship and mentorship in Africa - as compared to current isolated individual efforts. A synergistic network of committed scholars and researchers will stimulate Africa’s overdue transition from the sterile polemic of traditional ethno-philosophical thought, to a contemporary hermeneutical and globalised outlook of effective ‘reasoned analysis’ of Africa’s post-colonial realities and aspirations.
> By fostering value-laden human flourishing in Africa, AIHD will help minimise the continent’s rampant ethnic conflicts, wars, famine and disease epidemics, in addition to curbing the unprecedented wave of deplorable economic emigration.
